1-2 hours per week. To reinforce learning, students are encouraged to practice the clarinet for at least 10 minutes daily. Additionally, they will receive occasional music theory assignments, which typically take around 5-10 minutes to complete.Assessment
Learners are not formally assessed but their progress is monitored through their participation, performance and improvement over time. Parents can expect to receive two formal progress reports on their child's progress during week 5 and week 9.Class Experience
US Grade 3 - 6
Beginner Level
In this small group alto saxophone class, learners aged 8-12 will learn the basics of saxophone playing over the course of ten weeks. Under the guidance of Miss Suzanne, a licensed music teacher specializing in woodwind instruction. Miss Suzanne has over a decade of teaching experience; this course offers a comprehensive and structured introduction to playing the alto saxophone. Learners will receive a weekly 30-minute clarinet lesson from Miss Suzanne. Each lesson will focus on a specific aspect of saxophone playing and/or music theory, ensuring that your child becomes a capable player and musician. This course is designed for total beginners, so no prior saxophone experience is required. This class has a flexible age range and is ideal for learners who are interested in the saxophone or are preparing for school band or eventual private lessons.
Learning Goals
Learners will be able to read notes on the treble clef staff.
Learners will be able to count and perform rhythms in simple meters.

Learning Needs
Learners with special needs are warmly welcomed in my classroom. As a former public school teacher, I have experience adapting learning plans for learners with IEPs, behavior plans, and those on the autism spectrum.

There are no prerequisites for this class other than access to the required supplies.

Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from Kean University
I am licensed music teacher with over a decade of experience in public schools and as a private teacher. I specialize in teaching woodwind players and have experience teaching in group ensemble settings such as elementary bands and high school saxophone sectionals.
