Beginner - Intermediate Level
During these lessons, instruction on how to play the saxophone will be taught, covering a myriad of styles, depending on the students level of experience. Beginners will be taught how to assemble the instrument, produce sound, and how to read music. Advanced players will receive instruction on how to improve technique and expression, based on the pieces that they are currently working on to perfect for audition situations. Advanced and intermediate players can also receive instruction on jazz improvisation at the introductory or advanced levels. The structure of each lesson will consist of the student successfully performing assignments that were assigned from the previous lesson, while also receiving feedback on how to improve upon each assignment. Lessons will be a combination of instruction and demonstration by me of the pieces or exercises that we are working on. These are "one on one" lessons, so students will have my undivided attention.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Music from The University of the Arts
Hey students! My name is Matt, and I am a professional musician in New York City, with over 20 years experience as a professionally performing jazz musician, recording artist, and composer, as well as a saxophone and clarinet teacher, and a teacher of beginner and advanced jazz harmony and improvisation. I enjoy teaching students of all levels, and throughout my nearly 25 year career in NYC, I have enjoyed teaching a variety levels, from elementary school-aged beginners, seasoned high school and college-aged players, to middle-aged and senior citizen students who are at the beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. I love the challenges that come along with taking my advanced students to the next level, just as much as I enjoy enlightening beginner students to realize that they actually can learn and achieve something that they might have thought was impossible. I believe that it is my job to figure out simple and accessible ways to explain even the most advanced concepts in music, so that everyone has an opportunity to learn and enjoy.
