Class Experience

SUMMARY:
This class is a continuation of class series "Russian Language Course"*. If you have taken my other two 3-part classes: "Russian Language Course for Starters" and "Russian Language Course for Beginners", this is the next class in the series. ( Your learner has an option to test into this class without taking the other classes).

In this course, children will be speaking, reading and writing in Russian.
Children will have opportunities for speaking in Russian: together with the teacher, as a class, while working in pairs, and while playing games. Children will read short dialogues and words: in the Textbook, during classroom games, while completing tasks in their workbooks. Children will practice writing during classroom games and while completing tasks in their workbooks. Students will get exposed to proper grammar and will be encouraged to use it properly.

COURSE PROGRESSION:
1. Prerequisite/Test-in**: Russian Language Course for STARTERS: Speaking, Reading and Writing.
2. Prerequisite/Test-in**: Russian Language Course for BEGINNERS: Speaking, Reading and Writing.
3. This class ----> Russian Language Course for INTERMEDIATE I: Speaking, Reading, Writing.

Next courses in the series:
4. Russian Language Course for INTERMEDIATE II: Speaking, Reading, Writing.

(**Your learner may skip some courses if he/she can pass the entrance test: speaking, reading and writing. Entrance test may take an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes. Testing is done through my one-time tutoring class for $20 per each test).

NEW FEATURE:
In this course, children get to learn more about Russian culture through a built-in comic in the Textbook.
What does that mean for your learner:
1) their language skills are sufficient enough to read and understand the story of the comic;
2) learners get to develop active and passive vocabulary while working with the comic - active vocabulary means that they know the words very well and passive vocabulary means that they will read words that they will understand but may not use in their speech frequently;
3) learners get to relate to the situation in the comic as the story actually happened to one Russian boy.

LEVELING UP:
+ By successfully completing this course, your student will be considered at a lower-Intermediate level of knowing Russian. This is why the course is called "Intermediate I".

+ Goal of the course is for students to be confident in situations that will arise as they interact with Russian language and Russian speakers. Students will not explicitly learn the Russian cases or memorize grammar tables unless they want to on their own time.

+ The basis for learning in this course is spoken language. Learners will practice understanding speech by ear, then practice speaking and reading. Only then, learners will learn how to express their thoughts in spoken language and written word.

TEXTBOOK AND WORKBOOK:
The hard copies of the Textbook and the Workbook could be obtained on Amazon and the electronic versions of the Textbook and the Workbook could be obtained on the author's website. If you are buying the electronic version, please, print the entire workbook as we will be working with it in class. All Textbooks come with audio files for additional studying. Occasionally, the teacher will send additional printouts for classroom use.
Please note, that all Intermediate classes ( Part 1 - which is this class, Part 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 - next classes) use the same Textbook and Workbook.

CLASS PARTICIPATION and POLICY:
- Annotation: This class also uses the Annotation Tool in Zoom. When the teacher shares the screen and asks children to circle or find objects or write on the whiteboard, go to the Zoom's tool bar, select "More", and choose "Annotate" option.

- Video: At the beginning of each class, according to the Outschool policy, all learners must turn their cameras on to be verified by the teacher. Students benefit more from this class by keeping their camera on at all times. It allows the teacher and other learners to track facial expressions and to establish good connection and communication. We share our work and play games that require learners to keep their video on.

- Audio and Microphones: In this class we will speak a lot and practice speaking. I encourage everyone to keep their mics on. (I will occasionally mute some or all students if they have a background noise).

-Cancellation: If there are less than 3 students enrolled in a particular section it will be postponed or cancelled.

- Distractions: We all want our children to engage in learning, have fun and make friends. Please, ensure that your child is focused on the class and is not distracted by anything that can rob them of the learning experience.

I am a native from Russia and my level of Russian is Native. As learners are getting into more advanced learning of Russian, I am excited to help them expound their speaking, reading and writing skills to the deeper level. Having lived in Russia for almost 20 years, I recognize that the topics presented in this "Intermediate I" course are everyday situations that learners will likely to encounter with the native Russian speakers in their region.
