Class Experience

Beginner - Intermediate Level
What will be taught?
Children will develop early reading comprehension skills by listening to stories, identifying key ideas, and expressing their thoughts through discussion, movement, and creative activities.

What topics will you cover?
- Listening and understanding stories
- Recognizing characters, settings, and events
- Retelling and summarizing in simple ways
- Building vocabulary through fun, interactive activities
- Engaging in creative storytelling

How is your class structured?
Each session will follow a predictable routine:
1. Welcome & Warm-up – A short movement activity or simple question to get ready for learning!
2. Story Time – A read-aloud with interactive elements like acting out parts or predicting what happens next.
3. Discussion & Engagement – Talking about the story with visual aids or props.
4. Creative Activity – Drawing, role-playing, or using hands-on materials to reinforce comprehension.
5. Wrap-up & Goodbye – A short recap and a fun closing activity, like a reflection.

How will you teach?
I use a play-based, interactive approach that keeps young learners engaged. Stories come to life through movement and hands-on activities that cater to different learning styles.

How much will learners get to interact with you?
Learners will engage through reading out loud, movement-based activities, games, and guided discussions. They will get plenty of one-on-one interaction, encouragement, and opportunities to express themselves through words, play, and creativity.

Learning Goals

The child will be able to use their imagination!

Learning Needs
I tend to incorporate multi-sensory activities, clear structure, and visual aids to enhance comprehension. Students will have opportunities for movement breaks individualized strategies to build confidence and engagement in reading.
Parental Guidance
For this class, we will be using a website called BookBot, which provides a variety of standard and short reading books designed for young audiences. This resource will be used throughout the entirety of the class to support reading comprehension and engagement. To make the experience more accessible and interactive, I will be sharing my screen while using BookBot. This allows students to follow along as we read together and work on comprehension skills as a group. No individual student accounts will be required, and students will not need to navigate the website independently. If you have any questions or concerns about the use of this tool, please feel free to reach out.
