Reading is always better when there are others! In this social, fun, ESL English reading club, we will build reading and speaking skills together. I use social interaction and high-interest text to practice comprehension strategies necessary for reading success. This is a low-stress reading club. We read. We talk. We laugh. We make friends. By the end of this class, students will be more confident readers who can understand and speak with ease! 📚✨ May 26th All Kinds of Animals June 3rd Fun with Words June 10 Family and Community June 16 Let's Eat June 23 Break July 1 Insects and Birds July 8 Know and Learn July 15 School July 21 Break July 28 Reptiles and Amphibians Topics in the Series Seasons and Weather Games and Sports How I teach Reading Strategies 1. Direct explanation I explain to students why the strategy helps comprehension and when to apply the strategy. 2. Modeling I model, or demonstrate how to apply the strategy, usually by “thinking aloud” while reading the text that the students are using. 3. Guided practice I guide and assist students as they learn how and when to apply the strategy. 4. Application Students practice the strategy until they can apply it independently.
