Class Experience

US Grade 2
In this 4-week self paced class, your child will read short stories (all short stories are one page or less) that are intended for students who are in second grade.

Each class (there are 2 classes per week) will have around a 10-minute video of me teaching the theme for that class. I will post the teaching videos and activities on Monday and Thursday mornings.

Next, they will use Google Forms to complete the reading assignment and questions that implement the theme (for example character traits, main idea, and illustrations....)

Then, I will post a link for fun games and/or activities in the classroom for them to practice the theme for the class.

Last, I will post social activities for each class to keep the classroom active. I want them to always feel comfortable asking me questions!

This class will use Google Forms, YouTube, and Kahoot!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Weekly Schedule:
Monday mornings at 8 am CST:  I will post a video and a Google form link that includes the short story and questions about the story to check comprehension. Your child will read the short stories independently and answer the comprehension questions.
Tuesday mornings at 8 am CST: Game or Activity
Thursday mornings at 8 am CST:  I will post another video and Google form link that will include a short story and questions about the story to check comprehension. Your child will read the short stories independently and answer the comprehension questions.
Friday mornings at 8 am CST:  Game or Activity
➡️➡️I am a very active teacher and I will always answer any question that you may have,  typically within a few hours.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

After reading your child reads the story there is a list of questions some multiple choice and some that require a short answer that they complete making sure they comprehend the story.

I believe children learn best through fun! I want each student to develop a love for reading! The ultimate goal is that I want each student to be proud and excited when they can read and understand a book or story all by themselves!

Lesson 1:
A Character Story
 A Character Story
Character Reading Passages is a story that describes the main character's traits are a description of a character’s personality. These are revealed to a reader either by the narrator, by other characters, or through deeds. Learning character traits helps a reader predict and understand the motives and actions of the character.
Lesson 2:
Compare and Contrast Story
 Comparing and contrasting stories are fundamental to the characters and story development. The ability to compare and contrast is one of the first higher-order reading comprehension skills students are introduced to. The ability to categorize and compare things in terms of their differences and similarities is one of the stages of cognitive development.
Lesson 3:
Figurative Language Story
 Figurative Language Story
Reading stories that include figurative language allows kids to effectively communicate an idea that’s otherwise not easy to understand because of its abstract nature or complexity. It will also improve their writing skills and give them a better tool for expressing their emotions.
Lesson 4:
Illustrations Inference Story
 Illustrations Inference Story
Helping your child understand when information is implied, or not directly stated, will improve her skill in drawing conclusions and making inferences. These skills will be needed for all sorts of school assignments, including reading, science, and social studies.

Parental Guidance
This class will use Google Forms for the story and the comprehension questions. I will send a Google Form link that will include our Reading passage and comprehension questions. You DO NOT have to have a Google Account to open and use the link. It is simply a link that I will provide at least 12 hours before class starts. Also if there are issues with the link I will share my screen for your child to read the passage.

Bachelor's Degree in Science from Arkansas State University
Hello, my name is Jennifer Robertson and I live in Jonesboro, Arkansas, USA. I am a mother of two wonderful children. I obtained my Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design with a minor in Management from Arkansas State University and I also hold an ESL teaching certificate.

Before Outschool, I spend five years teaching children ages 6-16 in the classroom. I also tutored children in grades 2nd through 7th for over six years. Currently, I teach ESL classes online.

I believe that learning should be fun and that children learn best through fun learning-based activities. I find much joy in watching children’s minds grow and develop a passion for learning! All my classes will be an engaging learning experience. But most of all, my classes will be fun!

I am excited to start this chapter of my life. I am grateful for the opportunity to teach your children and see their minds grow. Mrs. Jennifer
