30 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
All animal lovers are welcome to this one time class! We will begin our small group lesson with time to share about the pets we know and love in our lives. We will review short vowel sounds A and O using the words "cat" and "dog" for support. We will enjoy reading Bad Dog by Mike Boldt together and identify the words with short vowels in the text. While reading, we will stop to compare and contrast the typical behavior of cats and dogs while making connections to the pets we know. Last, we will use our knowledge of "cat" and "dog" to play a word game and build fluency with short vowel words. Students should have letter sound knowledge of most letters and beginning writing skills to fully engage in the class.
Learning Goals
Students will apply letter sound knowledge to read and write CVC words. Students will engage with text by comparing and contrasting animal characteristics and making connections to their own experiences.
