Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
In this class students will develop one of the essential skills needed for a deeper understanding of what they are reading. Your student will learn three ways to make connections while reading. As your child advances through school, connecting to what they are reading will help them gain the critical thinking skills necessary to be successful when reading materials for various purposes.

During class scholars will discuss making connections from a text to themselves, from a text to other texts and from a text to the world around them. Students will have the opportunity to practice these skills during class so they may apply what they have learned.

Making Connections Class Activities
Brainstorm... What is a connection? How are connections made?
Discuss & Demonstrate

       Text to self connections.
       Text to world connections.
        Are there other connections?
Practice... Scenarios are used to practice making connections to self, world and other text.

I am a certified teacher who has more than 20 years of experience adapting lessons to meet the individualized needs of scholars. I believe people learn through practice and they remember because it was fun learning. Therefore, students will have plenty of opportunities to practice these skills in a comfortable and fun setting. My hope is that each scholar will feel confident and successful when they are in my classroom.
