Private Drum Set Lessons - All Ages - Half Hour
A practical approach to the drum set. Private lessons to work on 1) Hand technique (grip, rudimental drumming), 2) Drum set technique (coordination, independence) and 3) Musical skils such as timekeeping, groove and dynamics.
Class experience
We will work on the core skills for a successful drummer: 1) Developing hands - improving grip, using drum rudiments to improve speed and accuracy 2) Drum set technique - coordination, independence 3) Musical skills - developing good timekeeping and groove 4) Music theory - we will discuss concepts such as time signatures, note values, etc. Practicing on your own is very important. I will assign exercises to work on between lessons.
Grip - how to approach holding the sticks and different angles for striking the drums Drum rudiments - rhythms that useful to practice and which form the fundamental language of drumming. This includes single strokes, double strokes, paradiddles, etc. Coordination - lining up the notes that you are playing with your different limbs Independence - training your limbs to play different things at the same time Beats - learning beats is an essential part of drumming. We will explore beat variations. Groove and timing - how to develop a strong sense of time that makes it comfortable for others to play with you Feel - using different styles to play something that is appropriate for the music Reading - time signatures and note values Dynamics - developing the ability to play at a wide range of volumes
Homework Offered
I will assign exercises for hands and for drum set. We may also choose specific songs you work on. Eeach lesson will begin with a review of the assignments. There is no grading - the more work you put in, the better the results you will get.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class

Grades Offered
Students will need a drum set or a similar practice setup, along with sticks to play the drums. A practice pad will be needed. Students will need to be able to access a metronome, either using a physical metronome, or an app. Students will also need a way to take notes during the lesson.
