If you are interested in my other preschool ongoing class that meets twice a week and can't join due to no spaces or not being able to attend twice a week, then this condensed version is for you! We will be doing many of the same activities, just in one day instead of two! We will still cover the same subject areas but with a shorter time spent on each subject area. Instead of subjects being split into two days, it will be combined into one day. Every week, we will do math, movement, art, prewriting/prereading, and science activities that are centered on the week's theme. We will also discuss that week's theme and learn the number and letter of the week. Every activity will be related to the week's theme. For example, for the theme of colors, we will be making patterns out of colors for our math activity, do a color mixing art activity, and create a walking rainbow for science. I encourage lots of social interactions throughout the activities, especially having learners talk through what they are learning about with other learners. This is a great class to learn social skills as we will be practicing raising hands in class, waiting our turn to speak, answering questions, and sharing in class. I do not typically have learners muted as I believe they need to learn how to take turns speaking as they will need this skill in other areas of life. The only time I will ask learners to be muted is if there is excessive background noise (such as someone on a phone call that interrupts class). I also encourage a high amount of creativity and independence in activities, especially when it comes to art. I want learners to take what we do and make it their own, rather than just following a set guideline and being bound by those rules. I believe learners will learn more by making it personal. Learners need no prior knowledge other than some understanding of how to use tools such as crayons and markers. We will also be discussing the weather and days of the week in every class. I appreciate that every family approaches holidays differently. In order to respect everyone's differences, holidays will be taught from a secular view and activities will be not controversial elements of the holiday. (For example, Halloween will be pumpkins, cats, bats (not scary), etc. Christmas will be snowmen, red and green, candy canes, etc.) Note for weeks that are off due to holidays: On the weeks that we don't have class due to holidays, do not worry about unsubscribing, you will not be charged for the weeks we don't have class.
Learning Goals
Learners will discover new topics in math, science, prewriting/prereading, art, and motor through weekly themes. They will also be learning facts about each theme such as facts about ocean animals for ocean week. They will increase their knowledge and ability in all subject areas, as well as knowledge of numbers and letters, cutting and gluing skills and social skills.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
There may be some activities that learners will need assistance with (such as cutting paper or mixing things for science). I will make it clear when they will need an adult's help.
Supply List
Learners will need basic supplies such as crayons/markers, glue, paper, scissors, etc. There will be a supply list for each week's class that will be posted in the classroom a week before each class. These supply lists will also be mostly basic supplies (such as pipe cleaners, play dough, etc.) but will be specific for each week.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
I have worked with preschool-age children for 17 years and have extensive experience planning and teaching all subject areas for preschool. For the past two years, I have been homeschooling my son for preschool and all activities are tested in advance with a preschool-age child.
