Class Experience

US Grade 8 - 11
Come travel the world with me and learn about the spectacular processes that create all of the geologic features on Earth!

In this 10-week semester course, learners will explore the world of physical geology with a Geologist who has field experience and has worked in interesting geologic areas in real life. This course is designed to teach the basic principles of geology and cover a wide range of topics. This course will be taught based off of lecture, video, slides, and class discussion. Learners will engage with the teacher to collaborate on ideas during the discussions in the live meetings and in the class forum.

Each week, you can expect any relevant course materials to be posted in the class forum on Sunday for the following week of class to give each learner ample time to do any assigned outside work. . No prior knowledge is necessary.

In our live meetings, we will begin our lecture with an introduction to that week's topic before proceeding to the class discussion and weekly assignment instruction.

Some out of class activities may require supplies if the student wishes to participate in these additional activities. Please have a dedicated binder and basic art supplies such as colored pencils and a glue stick for this class.

We will study a variety of geologic topics in the world of physical geology to include the following material.

Week 1: Introduction to Geology/ Minerals
Week 2: Sedimentary Rocks/ Weathering and Soil
Week 3:Metamorphic Rocks/Crustal Deformation
Week 4: Earthquakes/ Igneous Rocks
Week 5:Volcanoes/ Earth's Interior
Week 6: Plate Tectonics/ Divergent Boundaries
Week 7: Convergent Boundaries/ Geologic Time
Week 8: Running Water/ Mass Wasting
Week 9: Groundwater/ Glaciers
Week 10: Shorelines /Deserts

Learners should be prepared to upload any additional work assigned into the class forum by the Monday of the next week's class topic.

I am looking forward to this course and love sharing my love for science with other interested learners. This course will be for the science-minded learner and will definitely prepare learners for science courses at the university level. If there are questions about whether this course is right for your learner, please reach out to me.

This is a collaborative environment between the teacher and learners. Please be prepared to learn and, most of all, have a great time!
