Class Experience

Every session's topics will be learner-directed due to events/happenings in the computer industry and specific learner needs. Whether it is designing, compatibility checking, constructing/ buying parts, my goal is to make it as easy as possible for my students to attempt and be successful with their builds. I will facilitate the lesson and discussion each week to guide each students through their build. My goal it to have an enriching environment so each student can have their build questions answered and have lots of parts and computers available to show installation procedures and best practices.
The club is structed so that it can meet the individual needs of my learners. Traditional topics that have come up repeatedly are the right type of graphics card, the correct types of other equipment, which video games to play etc. Each learner is requested to bring a list of topics they need help with and each item will be addressed as part of the whole groups discussion.

Learning Goals

We will learn about the technologies that go into computer building, answer learner specific technology related questions, and leave learners with the ability to successfully do their builds and have little to no problems.

Teacher expertise and credentials
North Carolina Teaching Certificate in Mathematics
I teach a range of subjects in public high school, including graphic design, computer science, and preparation for the CompTIA A+ Computer Repair Test. On Outschool, I offer classes in math, science, and programming. With over 20 years in public education, I hold a Bachelor’s in Science Education, Master’s degrees in Middle Grades Math and Computer Education/Instructional Technology, and am a Nationally Board Certified teacher with an Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership. My experience spans elementary, middle, and high school levels, enabling me to effectively engage students at varying academic levels and make learning both educational and enjoyable.

My teaching philosophy centers on making technology education accessible, engaging, and relevant. I believe that understanding technology is crucial in today’s world, and my approach is to demystify complex concepts by breaking them into manageable parts. I emphasize hands-on learning and real-world applications, encouraging students to explore, experiment, and solve problems creatively.

I strive to create an inclusive environment where all students feel valued and motivated to learn. By adapting my teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles and academic levels, I aim to foster a growth mindset and build confidence in each student’s ability to grasp and apply technological concepts.

Technology is ever-evolving, and I believe in preparing students not just with current knowledge, but with the skills to adapt and innovate as new developments arise. My goal is to inspire curiosity and a lifelong passion for learning, equipping students with the tools they need to succeed in both their academic and professional futures.
