This class is taught in Spanish.
Students will learn to or improve their reading in Spanish.
I grew up in a Spanish speaking home, earned a seal of Biliteracy in high school after taking 4 years of Spanish. During the pandemic, I taught and tutored early phonics and beginning reading in Spanish to a cohort of students attending a dual immersion Spanish elementary school. I have had high success in improving student reading fluency in Spanish.
Learners may be given extended practice to continue working on the concepts and reading at home. Learners should spend 1-2 hours each week practicing at home especially if non-native speaker. I highly suggest learners practice reading and speaking Spanish using Duolingo as well if there are no Spanish materials in home.
Student should bring a pencil and paper to each meeting. And any books from home or library that they would like to use during class reading time.
Will give student a 1 minute timed fluency assessment every other week to track progress.
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Students will be presented kid appropriate videos of syllable, letter, word sounds. Instructor will also present via google slides. No need for child to access anything on their end, everything will be through a screen share during the meeting.
