US Grade 2 - 5
Welcome to a tailored and individualized reading tutoring program, specifically designed for students between the ages of 7 and 12. Lessons focus on enhancing essential reading skills, including phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension, all grounded in the proven principles of the Science of Reading. The Science of Reading is a research-based approach that has proven to be highly effective in teaching reading skills. I employ evidence-based methods and best practices to strengthen your child's phonics and phonemic awareness, expand their vocabulary, enhance their fluency, and boost their comprehension abilities. In our initial class, I'll conduct a comprehensive assessment to precisely gauge your child's current reading abilities. This serves as the foundation for customizing the lessons to meet your child's unique needs, ensuring that they receive the most targeted and effective support. Individualized learning plans will be developed based on the results of their assessment. Lessons may focus more on phonics or comprehension, depending on where support is needed. This includes not only addressing specific skill gaps but also instilling a love for reading and a deep understanding of the written word. My goal is to equip your child with the skills and knowledge they need to become proficient readers, setting them on a path to success in their academic journey. Before the first class, I ask parents to share: - Background information on their child's reading level and overall progress in school - Specific skills they would like students to work on during tutoring (phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, and/or comprehension) *****If you have questions about the suitability of tutoring for your child, please send me a message before registering for a class. You may also sign up for the assessment as well. If parents are not aware of their child's reading level, no worries. I will assess students on the first day to ensure they are receiving reading passages on their level. *** Please note....This is not homework-support tutoring.*** I will screen-share reading passages as well as copies to print out.
Learning Goals
Students will improve phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension with practice and guided instruction.
