Participants of Nature Journal 2 will meet each week in the online classroom for learning, direction, sharing, and inspiration. Participants will choose between a variety of assignments between classes to complete their assignments each week and then share journals in class each week. Week 1 Review, Renew and Launch In our first week, we will touch on the solid nature journal tools ( learned in NJB 1) and talk about how to go deeper with those. Then we will move into the curiosity framework to help you really dig deep in your thinking. Motivations and Inspirations will be renewed and will be launched into making our nature journals our own. Week 2: Photography and Collections Let's explore a few tips for getting great nature photos and how to use them in your journal. Then we will talk about collections and lists that work great in a nature journal and give them a try! Week 3 Zoom Out- Landscapes & Color Let's "Zoom Out" and talk about how to do quick landscape drawings in the field. Then have fun as we explore color pencil and water color pencil application. Week 4 Zoom In- Close-Up Sketching & Thinking by Analogy Now it is time to " Zoom In", and use a magnifying glass to observe nature, do some sketching of those small targets. We will jump into using our imagination and stretch our thinking by analogy Week 5 Water Color Resist & Beyond You will learn watercolor paint application and how to use it in the field. Then enjoy putting your knowledge to use with a watercolor resist project for your journal. We will wrap up the class with some ideas on how to keep yourself inspired and journaling nature! Please come ready to get started in your nature journal. (see listing of supplies) Please note the Minimum Participant Policy: I need at least 5 paid participants to run this class, especially because we share so much! So, please tell your friends! If you invite someone to take this class that is new to Outschool you will get a $20 credit for any class and so do they! (Ask me for details) If the times listed don't work for you please feel free to suggest some times & dates. OR If you need to miss some classes I can send you the recordings so it can be a sort of "flex" class for you with a live option. I am happy to put together a special class for groups of friends or co-ops with special pricing.

Participants of Nature Journal: 2 will explore a variety of ways to go deeper with journaling nature, enjoy it and make it their own.

Parental Guidance
I highly recommend Nature Journal Basics: 1 prior to this class.
All ages and abilities are welcome in this course. However, please be advised that some children will need parental support in the way of attention during class time, reading the instructions and scribing as needed.
Supply List
* Low cost water color paint tray and paintbrush * Journal from NJB 1 class. ( sketch pad with thicker weight unlined paper) * Crayons * Magnifying glass or jeweler's loop Optional: We will talk about colored pencil and water color pencil application in one of the classes but their use will be optional but fun to have!

What makes my class especially unique in the world of online education is that the small classroom experience is valued. Rather than teaching your child in a tutorial format, students get to have the opportunity to both share their journal for an audience (other students) and also to have the chance to be inspired by seeing other student nature journals.
