Like Show & Tell but with a twist!

Each week, students will choose an object they wish to share with the class. Before they share it, they’ll answer clue questions selected by the teacher. These clues will be literacy based. Examples: the letter it starts with, what it rhymes with, how many syllables, etc. Clue questions are assigned ahead of time so students are fully prepared. We will sometimes choose a theme for object choice such as, winter, spring, Valentine’s, etc. After the class guesses, your student will tell about their object and why they chose it!

The purpose of this class is to learn and strengthen early literacy and social skills.

Skills such as;

Phonological Awareness
Phonemic Awareness
Letter Recognition
Letter Sounds
Colors
Language Skills
Social Skills
Taking Turns
Presenting

It’s amazing how much can be learned with a simple activity!

Slides, visual aids, and literacy activities will be used to enhance this learning experience.

Refer to the weekly schedule to prepare!

Week of January 22nd: no objects this week! We will do an alphabet hunt! The teacher will select letters in class and students will be given a moment to find an object that starts with that letter! We will also do a rhyme hunt! This will be an active session!

Week of January 29th: Choose
a ❄️ winter ❄️ object! Any object that makes you think of winter! Be ready to tell the class the first letter/letter sound it begins with and a word is rhymes with!

Week of February 5th: choose ANY object! Be ready to answer the letter or letter sound it begins with and how many syllables it has!

Week of February 12th: Choose an object that makes you think of Valentine’s Day! Be ready to share its first letter or letter sound and its color!

Background:
I received my bachelor’s degree in special education and my master’s degree in reading. I am certified in early childhood education, mild-moderate disabilities, severe/profound disabilities, and I am a certified Reading Specialist. I taught in public schools for 12 years. I taught prek, kindergarten, 1st-3rd students with learning disabilities, and middle school students with learning disabilities.
I left the classroom to start my own reading tutoring business. I now solely tutor students in reading and teach on Outschool.

Philosophy:
I follow Science of Reading practices. I use a phonological awareness and phonics scope and sequence when instructing students. Lessons are customized to their reading needs.
I believe in play based, hands-on, multi-sensory learning. My primary goal is for students to have fun so they never feel like learning to read is a chore. I believe the ability to read is the most important thing. It opens doors, takes us on adventures, and provides us unlimited knowledge.

What I Teach:
I offer phonics classes for elementary students, book clubs for secondary students, and individual reading tutoring.
