Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
In this one-time class, students will create a snapshot of their lives right now to serve as a keep-safe to open when they are older - perhaps as a graduation gift to themselves.

In this lesson students will think about:
Themselves, their favorite people, hobbies, interests, memories, future hopes, and their favorite things.

They will record it all down in writing and drawings (time permitting - some might need to be completed after class)
Students will also write a letter to their future selves, considering their lives now and their hopes and dreams for the future.

Possibly Activities completed in class (remaining activities not covered will be provided for students to complete themselves)
-What is a time capsule?
-All About me
-Self-portrait
-Favourite personal qualities
-Favorite people
-Current favourites
-Snapshot of a week in the life of...
-Dear future me letter
-Memories
-Hopes + Future
-Bucket list/When Im older I look forward to...
-Interview with my grown-up (homework activity)

A list of items and possible additions will be included as well.

After each activity is explained students will get the opportunity to work on it and ask any questions. Students will also be encouraged to share their thoughts or work with the rest of their classmates if willing. This class is very relaxed and fun, encouraging students to think about their lives right now as well as their hopes and dreams for their future selves.

I look forward to meeting your learners in class!

*Writing will not be evaluated, students will be encouraged to spell words through sounding, etc. in order to create an accurate snapshot of who they are/their current abilities for a more authentic time capsule.

'Meraki' (a term used by the Greeks) is when you do something with your soul, creativity, and love. It is my mission to act with Meraki daily and to encourage learners to do the same.

Hi, my name is Olivia, but you can call me Teacher Liv, or Liv. I am passionate about teaching holistically so that students develop socially, emotionally, and academically. I believe that it is easy for students to get drawn into the magic of fairy tales or make-believe but it takes a little more effort to introduce them to the magic in the world around them. And there is so much magic in the world around us!

In my classroom, we will venture into the depths of English, learning how to go from 'story writing' to adventure telling. We will observe nature and discover the secrets behind the eyes of elephants. We will communicate complex messages and feelings without saying any words at all.
(My favourite teaching areas include: English, Science, and Visual Arts).

In my lessons, students will be encouraged to be curious, to laugh, to lead the way, to be proud of themselves and their learning, and to learn at their own pace. Most importantly, to discover the 'magic' hidden in plain sight in the world around us.

I have been an educator for the past 9 years, teaching and learning from children aged 10 months to 12 years old. I have my Bachelor of Education with a specialization in Montessori Education and in 2022 I gained my TESOL diploma.

In my spare time, I love spending time with my family, being out in nature, traveling, photography, and arts and crafts. So far I have lived in South Africa, New Zealand, and Canada. I love exploring new places and learning about other cultures, languages, and traditions.
