DESCRIPTION: This class is part of a series of classes that focus on topics which help learners develop strong social-emotional learning (SEL) and growth mindset skills through inspiring stories, self-reflection, and engaging guided activities. Students explore their own ideas and thoughts while learning how to believe in themselves. They also learn why being unique is important, different ways to share kindness with others, and build self-confidence. By developing a growth mindset students learn to believe that they can always improve by putting forth effort and applying certain strategies. LEARNING GOALS: "Respect." In this class young adults identify areas to show respect and how to speak up for themselves when they feel that they have been disrespected. We brainstorm ideas to show respect for ourselves, other peoples cultures and traditions, property and the planet. We will role-play our action plan on how to politely speak up for ourselves when we feel disrespected, by remaining calm, practicing good manners and working towards solutions. CLASS: Students will learn through the use of Nearpod, worksheets, and guided discussions and activities. This class utilizes an interactive presentation platform called "Nearpod". Nearpod turns a powerpoint presentation into interactive slides so that students are able to draw, answer questions, and much more directly on the presentation through out the lesson. This helps keep students engaged, allows them to collaborate as a class, and practice what they have learned. Students may need parental help in the beginning to join the Nearpod lesson. LEARN. LAUGH. THINK.

Hello! I have over 30 years experience teaching life skills classes to children and young adults. I have successfully completed training programs through the non-profit organization Called to Rescue in mentorship and positive personal development strategies for ages 6-18. Seeing students' self-growth through an increase in confidence, emotional intelligence, and kindness towards themselves and others is what drives me to teach! I hope to see your learner in class!
