Musical Theater Workshop

In my musical theater workshop we will work together for 4 weeks to organize and learn the fundamentals of musical theater and all that goes into creating a number together!  We will be utilizing google drive under my personal account which I will share with students and parents to organize our materials and sheet music and parents and students will be only allowed access to the information shared during our workshop.  

I am a mom of 3 little wonderful little ones and I am very good with both ADHD and autism spectrum disorder learners as I am neurodiverse myself!  I am very excited to teach all types of learners about music and theater and cannot wait to excite our future generations of performers about the love of the stage and performing! 
 
In our four week course we will work together to accomplish the following:

What will always be covered each week:
*Group vocal warm-ups and techniques for young singers
*Physical warmups for dance and movement
*Group improvisation theater exercises/games to learn to be comfortable as an actor and a singer in a group setting and to work together as a cast
*Learning vocal parts and choreography of the song I will select for the group that is age appropriate and fitting for the number of enrolled students and voice parts
*Cool down from our rehearsal and group reflection of our progress we have made during the class and what is expected by our next meeting in preparation for our final performance of the number
*Learning about dedication to working towards our final goal of a live musical number on a virtual stage!

Weekly Breakdown

WEEK 1:
*Introductions and vocal and movement warmups
*Explanation of our four week project and selection of age and theme appropriate musical number based on my number of enrolled students (Selections will vary slightly based on class size)
*Introduction to basic musical theater terms and the process of what goes into and the staging of a musical theater number
*Introduction to looking at sheet music from our song and following the parts learning specific parts in a group song for each student (After this class I will split up the vocal parts for our number and it will be uploaded in our class google drive for homework during the week)
*Start to learn the choreography of our number 

WEEK 2:
*Recap of previous week and check in on learning our parts, sing and dance through of the project so far with our vocal parts looking at our sheet music
*Rehearsal of the number and individual choreographed parts shown to students to learn 
*An introduction to stage makeup and costume design and lighting , homework given to create a space to perform in your home with parent/guardian help!  Costume design ideas (will be simple DIY costumes) will be posted in google drive after class for homework to have students follow a guideline to bring their creations to class next week
*Final practice for the week and recap of what we expect to accomplish and be prepared for in week 3 (our dress rehearsal week!)

WEEK 3:
*Recap of what we have learned so far (students should be in designated areas for the final performance and be prepared to show their costumes and set up for lighting and scenery)
*Dress Rehearsal week!  Practice our number for the majority of this class, students should have the majority of vocal parts and choreography memorized this week
*Preparation for final performance on Zoom of our production

WEEK 4:
*Our Virtual Performance!  Parents will be encouraged to watch on zoom and celebrate and witness your students hard work and dedication to our musical theater group number!
*Reflections of what we learned and worked on, students should be prepared to share what they thought about the process and share with each other their thoughts and ideas of our project
*Musical Theater virtual cast dance and song party!
