Average rating:4.9Number of reviews:(131)
In this ongoing Waldorf-inspired music class, learners will actively engage with music from across the world through singing, composition, playing instruments, and movement while also learning about the basic elements of music.

Class experience

Using songs, folk dances, musical games, creative and responsive movement, and instrumental playalongs, learners will
* explore the basic concepts of sound, including tone, timbre, pitch, amplitude, and duration
* experiment with melody and harmony
* learn the basics of rhythm and steady beat, including recognizing, playing, and composing with quarter notes, eighth notes, half notes, and whole notes
* listen instruments and textures in music from a variety of genres and time periods
* recognize structure and form
* practice musical expression (dynamics, tempo, articulation)
Ms. Annette is certified to teach music from preschool through 12th grade and possesses her teaching certification. Additionally, she is a licensed Kindermusik educator, certified in Feierabend's Conversational Solfege and First Steps in Music, a qualified vocal first aider, and a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and the National Association of Music Educators. She has been teaching general music classes for over 25 years.
It is recommended that every learner has a basket filled with the following items:
* something to use as a drum
* something to use as a scarf (a lightweight dishtowel or baby blanket, playsilk, dancing scarf, etc)
* something to use as rhythm sticks (two pencils, two wooden sticks, etc)
* something to use as a shaker (rhythm eggs, a small container filled with rice or beans, etc)
* a small whiteboard and dry erase marker or paper and pencil for composing
While this is not primarily a dance class, we will be moving and learning some traditional folk dances, the occasional modern party dance (think the Electric Slide), clapping games, moving with props such as scarves, and other movement games and activities. Please be sure your learner has space to move-- this is definitely not a "sit in a chair" class-- as well as a water bottle if needed and appropriate foot wear for movement.
