Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 6
This course is designed to teach scholars different methods of multiplying larger numbers. Scholars can then choose the method that best suits them. From here, we will learn to solve long division problems, first with one-digit divisors and then with two-digit divisors. My style is upbeat and encouraging. I create a class atmosphere in which scholars feel safe to make mistakes and try new things. The class atmosphere is positive, patient and encouraging. I include games as often as possible to keep math fun for my students. I will include videos and activities in my google classroom for continuing practice at home, but homework is not required. Each week, I will review the previous lesson and continue to strengthen and build on skills.

Learning Goals
Scholars will start with a basic review of the meaning of multiplication and its inverse operation-division. We will build from there to discovering different methods of multiplying larger numbers. My goal is to help each scholar can find the method that best suits him/her. We will then stretch into long division with a one-digit divisor. We will spend a few lessons gaining confidence and strength with this skill. Scholars will also learn how to use multiplication to check their quotients in long division. Finally, we will build once more into dividing with a 2-digit divisor. After spending a couple of weeks mastering this skill, we will wrap up with mixed review and games.
