Assessment
Learner progress will be assessed informally by doing daily math minute worksheets independently at the start of class. Parents will always be notified if this is not the case.

Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 5
Beginner Level
During this class, students can expect to learn strategies for both multiplication and division. For the first week of the course, we will review multiplication facts as a class by playing various games. Students will also be provided with math minutes for the first 5 minutes of each class so that I can informally assess where students are in their learning. The second two weeks of the course will focus on many different strategies to use with multiplication, and by the end of our time together, students can choose one, if not more of the strategies that they learned to use day-to-day as they do multiplication. The following two weeks will focus on division. We will start with a basic division introduction, and then jump into many strategies that students can use as they divide. The final week of class will serve as a review week of all of the skills and strategies that students have obtained throughout the weeks of class. Students will be assessed by a final exam, in which they will be expected to answer various multiplication and division problems, utilizing at least two of the solving strategies that they learned.
Learning Goals
1. Students will be able to use 1 or more multiplication strategies to efficiently solve a multiplication problem.
2. Students will be able to use 1 or more division strategies to efficiently solve a division problem.

Parental Guidance
Students should spend 30 minutes - 1 hour for 2 of the days that we do not have class time, practicing their skills. Following each class, I will post a note on the classroom page, explaining what was done in class that day, so that parents know what their child should spend time practicing. A tool that is highly recommended for this class is a printer. Any worksheets I provide would best be able to be worked on if printed out. At the end of class, I would appreciate it if students/parents took a picture of student work from that day and send me a picture of it via outschool messages, that way, I can properly evaluate it. If any of this is not possible for you, please reach out, as I am more than happy to accommodate and modify expectations! :)

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Miss Kaylee. I teach classes mostly within ELA (reading, writing, phonics, grammar, etc). I have had extensive experience working with children. I recently graduated college with a bachelor's degree in educational studies and special education. While in college, I had the opportunity to work in many K-5 classrooms, working with children with very different learning styles and abilities. I have spent the last two years as a remote ELA and basic math tutor, so I have become very comfortable navigating the online teaching world. Prior to that, I spent 4 years as a camp counselor, working with young children as well. Working with children is my passion, and I love making a difference as an educator. One of my most important values as an educator is to meet every learner where they are, tailoring instruction to specific needs so that every student can be successful. I also find it very important to make instruction fun and engaging, as I find that students are more motivated to learn when they are having fun while doing it. When I am not working with children, I love to spend time with my family and friends, as well as my dog, Loopy, and my cat, Ruby. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions.
I look forward to meeting and working with you and your children!
