Professor Kitty pays close attention to the reports and if a learner is struggling will reach out to the parent with suggestions and possible short sessions to determine where the trouble spot is.Class Experience
US Grade 1 - 4
This 4-week asynchronous FLEX course catches the children while they are young and ready to have fun! They sing the songs that skip count and laugh with the funny dogs they get to choose from. The next class in this series is... https://outschool.com/classes/mikeys-world-of-dog-party-multiplication-or-part-2-or-6-8-tables-11-12-tables-or-flex-nEBZXHe9#usjMLMcnyB This is a FLEX class, so there are no live lessons. That makes it perfect for those who can't meet during my scheduled live classes. This class closely models the live version of this class I have taught to hundreds of students. They love it! You can see the happy reviews here... https://outschool.com/classes/mikeys-world-of-dog-party-multiplication-time-tables-qW28CHI4#usjMLMcnyB Parents find their learners retain their facts well with this class and love it because my energy level remains high and the dogs are just so much fun! Even thought it's asynchronous - students work can work together to share their voting on the many dog tricks that are presented as a reward for practicing their facts! I find the kids absolutely LOVE to share their opinions and reasons they chose a certain dog and I like to jump in and encourage the discussion! I often have families whose learners want to take my classes because they do well with my teaching style, but a specific class doesn't fit their schedule. They have found the flex classes not only fit the schedule, but offer many advantages and they enjoy the community that develops from our activities we do together. Mikey takes your child on adventures that create enthusiasm for the topic being taught. At the end of each week, learners get to trade showing their multiplication skills off in a skill runoff with seeing dogs show off their skills at the "Dawg Pawty". The great thing about both multiplication skills is that these are skills that kids can jump in on at many different grade levels, these skills are needed and applicable for many years to come, and they are fun to work within a setting of songs, games and funny dog tricks. Here is how it works: Each week on Tuesday morning your learner will get assigned a weekly lesson, with part two of the lesson presented on Thursday. These lessons will be in the form of Nearpod Activity Links. Nearpod is easy to access and requires no logging in. When they hit the link, they simply put a name in - it can simply be their first name if they like. I will receive a report of their finished work. These lessons have recorded portions where the learner will my instruction as I work through problems. During these recorded instructions, the video will pause from time-to-time and Nearpod will prompt the learner to answer questions about the lesson. Along with these interactive recordings are interactive games, fun mini-projects, and polls. The results of their interactions with these are received by me, the teacher, through Nearpod. The fun mini-projects are just that - fun and mini. They won't stress out your learner, but they will get your learner posting an "I have a problem to stump you with" game. To build a richer learning experience with the team of learners taking this class, each lesson will have a challenge to see if students can (in the spirit of positive learning) come up with great problems to solve. Your learner will share his/her problems by saying, "I have a problem for you... will it stump you?" We'll see who is not stumpable!!! On Thursday morning they will receive the second of the two lessons for the week. It will be modeled the same way as the Tuesday Nearpod lessons with brief video recordings of me teaching and embedded places in the recording where your students can interact. Those interactions and the results of activities and games they do will be something that will generate a report for me, the teacher, so that I know they are participating and progressing. We will repeat that cycle for each of the four weeks and have a final assessment at the end that your student will do on Nearpod. That final will be embedded into the end of the second lesson of that week. Upon completion of the assessment, I will send a final report to the parent of each learner. The activities can be polls, games, or quizzes. I will show them the results of this poll on the classroom page so that they can discuss it and get to know each other. There are match games, timed races to answer problems, fill in the blanks, and drag and drops. These interactions have worked well in my FLEX classes! The material I cover along with the content of the videos is very much like the live classes I teach on the same topic. I have had many students and parents tell me they love my style of teaching and interacting with the students, but one of two obstacles get in the way of signing up for or staying in the live classes. Either there is a scheduling conflict, or the student wants to move at a more accelerated classroom pace than I can do in a live class because I believe so strongly in making sure all students are reaching mastery. With the FLEX format, students can go as fast or as slow as is appropriate for their learning needs. I teach each concept thoroughly and with positive energy so that students stay engaged. As I teach the content, I have the learners interact through Nearpod so that they are fully involved like they would be in a live classroom. Links to the Nearpod meetings will be posted to the Outschool classroom page each week on Tuesday and again on Thursday. The classroom page will be used for class administration discussions and any specific questions about methodology. The other discussions and communication points will be done in Nearpod. Here are the topics we will cover week to week: Week 1 1’s and 10’s with 2 Dogs Back in the Dog House 2’s with the #2 Dog Back in the Dog House Week 2 Learn the 3's Times-Tables with the #3 Dog Back in the Dog House Dog Paw-ty with the #1, #10, #2, and #3 Dogs End of Week 1 and 2: Students Vote for Favorite Half-time Dog! Week 3 Learn the 4's and 5's Times-Tables with #4 and #5 Dogs Back in the Dog House Dog Paw-ty with the #1, #10, #2, #3, #4, and #5 Dogs Week 4 Learn the 9's Times-Tables with the #9 Dog Back in the Dog House Dog Paw-ty with the #1, #10, #2, #3, #4, #5, and #9 Dogs Students Vote for Favorite Dog for the Entire Course! Students Get to See if Their Dog Made it in the Mikey's World Hall of Fame of Dog Tricks Where this class fits within Mikey's Adventure classes: Mikey's Adventure classes target the same age group with highly interactive fun classes. Mikey has Multiplication Dog classes, a Geometry Cat classes, and a Roman Numerals (Adventures in Rome) classes. Mikey's Multiplication Dog Class fall into 3 parts. This class is the first of these 3 parts and focuses on seven of 12 multiplication tables. The next two parts (parts 2 and 3) focus on the other 5 of the 12 multiplication tables as well as squares, cubes and square roots. All three parts work together to get your student solid on their multiplication facts at a young age. Your student can complete this in as little as 12 weeks by staying with the 4 weeks per part (or they are also called levels).
Learning Goals
Your student will be able to recite the multiplication tables for the 1s, 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, 9's, and 10's.

Parental Guidance
Please note that children who are five years old are permitted to enroll, but please be cognizant of the maturity level of your student and whether they are able to manage multiplication and skip counting. Your learner should have some familiarity with adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing.
This course is available in 3 parts. I teach each part independently so that students are not expected to know the facts from one part before jumping into the next. Naturally Part 1 is the easiest with the 1's, 2's and 10's being 3 of the 7 numbers so if your learner is young or new to multiplication, begin here.
But if you wish for your learner to do multiple parts at one time they can because not knowing facts from one part will not hurt them with the other parts.
Nearpod:
I am using Nearpod as an external resource. No log in is required and the tool is completely private to the students. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, your learner will be guided to a link to a specific Nearpod lesson. He/she won't need to log in in any way. They simply click on the link and the Nearpod lesson will open. That lesson is private to our class only and any inputs your learner provides on that page link will only be seen by me. By the time the four weeks of the class is over, all Nearpod links will expire.
Youtube
Videos played on that Nearpod lesson are privately listed youtubes that are made for younger kids by me. All of this to reassure that a younger learner this FLEX class will not have access through this tool to anything other than math resources and presentations created and presented by me.
Supply List
Paper, pencil, and a brain ready for thinking fun!
Sources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools. Nearpod is used and is a simple click with absolutely no need to register or log in. All videos presented by the teacher and are very kid friendly. The way I use is as a teacher is to embed my teacher created recordings (of me teaching) in Nearpod so that Nearpod accesses the videos through my unlisted account on YouTube. These are simply recordings of me teaching the class or a simple dog trick.
You don't need to do anything on your end as a parent. I only use these tools as a screen share. As a teacher, I have all the technology worked out and your student just clicks and goes.
