Are you going into middle school for the first time? Or maybe you've been in middle school but are going to a new school? Are you excited, but maybe just a bit nervous too? It can be scary when you start a new year. What will my classes be like? Will I get a lot of homework? What if I can't open my locker? Who will I sit with at lunch? What if I get lost? If you have any of these questions, or others, then this class is for you! I have been teaching middle school for over 20 years and believe it or not, I was once a middle-school student so I know what it's like! If you have already started middle school and feel like you are a pro, come and share your tips! Maybe you can be a help to others. It's always fun to hear about others' experiences. We will have discussions, a question and answer period, and role-play scenarios to help you navigate the waters of this strange but exciting place called Middle School! By the end of class, you'll be feeling ready for the first few weeks of a new school year.
Learning Goals
Students will leave class with a better understanding of what middle school is like and a higher level of confidence about starting a new year.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello there! My name is Kelli and I live in the Finger Lakes area of New York state. I am a middle school math teacher with over 20 years of experience. I have taught in many different settings: public school, private school, online, and tutoring to individuals and small groups. While math is my specialty, I also enjoy English (reading and grammar) and history. I also hope to teach some other non-academic subjects in the very near future.
I believe every student can learn if given the right guidance. My goal is to make every student feel comfortable in my classroom. I was once a struggling math student, and I remember how that feels. I think that has made me a better teacher. I've had many students tell me that I explain things in a way they can understand, and I take that as a huge compliment.
When I'm not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family. Summer is my favorite season, and I love all that comes with it; swimming, walking by the lake, bonfires, working in the yard and just hanging out outside.
Thanks for reading, and I hope to see you soon in the classroom!
