Beginner - Advanced Level
A follow-up class to "Learn for Success", this 4 session course is designed to help students improve their learning strategies by understanding and highlighting their own learning styles, effective concentration and memory exercises, note taking / close reading techniques and test anxiety relieving exercises. Week 1: Understanding yourself- Looking at Learning Styles. Week 2: Memory and Concentration - Retaining what you’ve learned and why is that important. Week 3: Close Reading and Note-Taking - How to and why? We will discuss various note taking strategies and look and examples in class. Week 4: Test Stress - Relieving anxiety and reducing stress to do your best! Each week we will work on various activities and exercises to learn better. NOTE: "Learn for Success" can be taken first but is not a pre-requisite class.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of themselves, their learning styles, close reading, note-taking and learning techniques to see how best to take charge of their own learning.

Hello! I'm Shaheen and I look forward to meeting you all virtually. I've been teaching language arts and the humanities for over 25 years in public, private and charter schools to elementary, middle and high school students. I also homeschool my own four children, and I am an education consultant for other homeschooling families. My expertise is in teaching the humanities and literature classes for middle and high school aged kids. I offer classes in the Socratic Seminar style for kids as young as 4th graders. Holding an M.S. in Education and a certification in teaching ESL, I am happy to bring the love of learning to your kids.
My goals, with teaching students, are to make them life long learners and passionate about education. I enjoy teaching poetry, literature, logic and the classics and I hope to pass this love of language on to my students! Reviews
