Middle School French Conversation Club: Level 1/2
Students will practice conversation at an A1 level while learning and reviewing vocabulary and grammar.
US Grade 6 - 8
In this class, students will practice having conversations in French as a large class and as smaller groups. There will be a new conversation topic each week, and at the beginning of class (after any necessary introductions and greetings), I will ask a few icebreaking questions about our topic. The group portion is to help students feel comfortable with each other, and also so I can gauge where each student is at in their conversational skills. Then, students will go into break out rooms*....
This class is taught in French.
I have been learning French for 9 years now, from French 1 - French 5 as well as 4 years of immersion French classes. I am conversationally fluent and at a C1 level. I have tutored French immersion from May 2020 through August 2020 when the French immersion school near us closed for quarantine, and I've been teaching French online for two years. I also continue to take French lessons with native speakers, and I am working towards my Bachelors in French, which includes classes in advanced French immersion, French literature, and French education. I attended a 7-week summer French immersion camp through Middlebury College. I also have my certification in TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language), the principles from which I apply to my French classes.
Homework OfferedThere will be a list of what we worked on sent out after each class, but there is no homework that must be turned in.
0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
STUDENT LEVEL This is NOT a beginning French class. Its primary focus is to review and practice what was learned, so students MUST have taken 1-2 years of French and have basic / developing conversational skills.
Students will be provided with conversation questions for breakout room discussions
This is NOT a beginning French class. Its primary focus is to review and practice what was learned, so students MUST have taken 1-2 years of French and have basic / developing conversational skills. Breakout rooms will be constantly monitored by me switching between rooms, and if needed after several warnings, I will end them early. I will always explain to students that they should be kind and respectful, stay on topic, and speak French unless absolutely necessary to speak English.
