In this Flipped Learning 8 Week Course, Students will stregthen reading comprehension skill, develop a stronger vocabulary, increase fluency and work on core writing elements in a Novel Study by Beverly Cleary "Dear Mr. Henshaw".

CHAPTER 1: Journals
Day 1: HOMEWORK: Analyze the Format Day 2: MEETING: Analyze the format of the novel, which consists of letters written by Leigh to Mr. Henshaw.
Lesson 2
CHAPTER 2: Theme & Self Reflection
DAY 3: HOMEWORK: Explore the theme of loneliness and how it is portrayed in the early chapters. DAY 4: MEETING: Discuss the importance of journal writing and its role in self-expression and reflection.

DAY 3: HOMEWORK: Analyze the overall message or moral of the story as conveyed through Leigh's journey. DAY 4: MEETING: Moral, Journal
Journal/ Letter Writing: Teach journal writing techniques. Discuss the purpose of journal writing, different journal formats (such as reflective journals, personal diaries, or creative journals), and the benefits of journaling for self-expression and reflection. Encourage students to keep their own journals and write regular entries.
Descriptive Writing: They will be introduced to using vivid language and sensory details to create vivid images and evoke emotions in the reader.
Writing Process: They will understand the writing process, including prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing.
Grammar and Mechanics: Students will demonstrat proficiency in grammar, punctuation, spelling, and sentence structure.
Reading: Students will actively engage in discussions about the text.
They will analyze characters in the stories and discuss character development.
They will review setting, plots, themes, lessons, and symbolism in detail and provide explanations and detailed understanding through games, activities, and discussions.  
Students will review first and third person point of view.
 Students will  gain an understanding of character development.

Homework Offered
This is a Flipped Learning Course Students will be given 2 days to work on homework and 2 days in a meeting to work on skills. 這是翻轉學習課程,學生將有 2 天的時間完成家庭作業,並有 2 天的時間在會議上提高技能。

Assessments Offered
