This course immediately engages learners by giving them the role of junior investigators in the Mathematical Bureau of Investigations (MBI). As part of their training to join the MBI, the instructor helps students understand the basics of area of rectangles - including understanding the term and basic calculations. Students then use their knowledge to help solves puzzles and riddles in an effort to prevent the infamous members of the Guild of Amazing Thieves from stealing priceless artwork...

Students will need to multiply one- and two-digit numbers whose product is over 100. Because multiplication is not the skill to be learned, they would benefit from using a calculator for the multiplication. A paper and pencil can be used to keep track of answers.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
