Note: I have recently accepted a full-time position and now teach very few classes on Outschool. At this time, I am unable to accommodate class requests. Thank you! Does your child struggle with mathematics, or are they lacking math confidence? It could be because they believe some of the many “math myths” that have been perpetuated for decades. Using the modern research of Jo Boaler (“Mathematical Mindsets”) and Carol Dweck (Mindset: The New Psychology of Success”) as inspiration, in this class we will bust myths such as: -You must do math quickly to be good at it. -Only SOME people can learn math at high levels. -If you make a lot of mistakes in math, you must be bad at it. -Math is not creative and is only about computation. -When learning math, you are supposed to provide answers, not ask questions. I will use a self-made PowerPoint and visual aids such as pictures and short video clips to teach students about what the most recent research tells us about the science of learning mathematics. I will also lead a discussion that encourages students to ask questions and share about their own struggles. I am known for my energetic, humorous, and interactive teaching style, and I sprinkle each class with a bit of humor and some personal anecdotes to keep students engaged and learning.
