In this class students will improve their reading comprehension skills. I will introduce four characters who will help them learn the four skills of reading comprehension: predicting, asking questions, clarifying and summarizing. Students will meet four friends: Predicting Patricia, Questioning Quincy, Clarifying Claire, and Summarizing Sammy. Each of the characters will introduce a new skill. Following the characters, we will practice the skills we just learned by reading a book together. We will make predictions as a group, ask questions, clarify words or phrases we do not understand and summarize what we have read.
Learning Goals
Students will learn and apply reading comprehension skills with a story we will read through. They will be able to use prediction, clarify words, vocabulary and concepts they do not understand, ask questions and summarize what they have read.

We will be reading one of the following books in our lesson, Not Norman A Goldfish Story by Kelly Bennett, Those Shoes by Maribeth Boetls, or Bloop by Tara Lazar.

Hi, my name is Tracy Smith and I have been teaching for over ten years. I have a current Teaching License in the State of Uth as well as a master's degree in Teaching. I conducted a research study for my masters thesis, applying Reciprocal Teaching Reading Comprehension skills in the classroom. The students that had learned and used these skills were able to improve their reading comprehension at a much higher rate than those who did not learn and use these skills. I like to make my classrooms fun and safe for students to practice these skills while connecting with other students and learning from the story.
