During this 5 day course, students will learn the basics of personal narrative writing and grow in their confidence as a writer.
Class experience
During this 5 day course, students will learn about personal narratives and create their own story based upon a special past event in their lives. This is a beginner course for writers or a course to help grow your child's confidence in their writing skills. We will be reviewing the basics of paragraph writing, learn the meaning of a personal narrative, and write a short, 5 paragraph story. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in English and a minor in Studio Art. Through my concentration in English, I had the opportunity to take advanced English courses in Modern Grammar, Expository Writing, Writing Fiction, and English Literature. The degree, in combination with my concentration and minor, has provided me with the confidence and skills to not only teach academics, but to also bring creativity, a nurturing environment, a passion for learning, differentiation for all learners, and advanced English knowledge into the classroom. My Teaching Experience: I have four years of classroom experience teaching fifth grade. During these four years, I taught all subject areas including English, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science. In addition, I had the opportunity to teach in one-on-one and small group settings. During ELA, I created English rotations based upon student needs. Some of these groups included practicing fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and grammar. Each year, I also taught personal narrative writing, informative writing, and persuasive writing. My goal is for even the most reluctant writers to learn to love writing!
Students will be using google slides for our materials. You do not have to print out any of the pages, but are welcome to if you'd like. If your child would prefer to write rather than type, please make sure they have a notebook and pencil. However, I would recommend typing so that I can see your child's progress in real time.
