Let's Talk About Art: The Elements of Art
In this one-session class, students learn how to look at a work of art. The class incorporates some lecture with a lively class discussion. Representational, abstract, and non-representational works of art will be discussed.
Class experience
US Grade 8 - 11
Beginner Level
Students will be taught the elements of art. We will cover the steps to abstraction - moving from representational to non-representational images. We will discuss the meanings of the elements of art: form, subject, and content. Students will look at famous works of art and decipher each element and meaning. I will teach using a PowerPoint and discuss the images with the students. The course will be part lecture but mostly discussion.
Students will be able to look at a new work of art and discuss its qualities and decipher meaning.
I am a college art professor. I love looking at art and hope to convey that enjoyment to my students.
All are welcome. There will be class discussion but there are no specific requirements for participation.
