Molecules make up our entire world, and atoms make up molecules. In this course, students will create clay atoms and then use them to build 3-4 new clay molecules each week. Molecules will range from the simple (water, carbon dioxide) to the complex (sucrose) and everything in between. This class is perfect for students who are interested in chemistry and just starting to learn about atoms and molecules. Each week in the classroom, there will be several videos and handouts posted. I am a certified chemistry teacher (grades 7-12) with 6.5 years of experience in a high school classroom and almost 2 years of experience teaching online. I have also taught freshman college chemistry. From these experiences, I have worked with a lot of different types of learners at various stages of interest and motivation- from high school students simply taking the class as a requirement to college freshmen chemistry majors passionate about the course with never ending questions. I can tailor my teaching style to fit the learner, and I do what I can to make it approachable by anyone.
Learners will need clay and toothpicks each week. They will also need paper (or that week's printouts) and something to write with. The course material can be completed without the use of a printer.
No live meetings, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
