In this lesson, the young learners will learn how to identify and read a simple map. We will use a few different maps to show how advanced they can become. This is an introduction to cartography for younger children. We will start the class off by introducing ourselves by name and where we live. By using different maps and an end of class drawing activity, each learner will be able to understand the main parts needed to create a map of their own. I encourage each learner to bring a ruler, colored pencils, markers, or crayons, and paper. Learners may also use markers and dry-erase boards if they prefer. If the learner is able to find a map before class, we can use it as a show and tell to discuss and describe what we see.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
