Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 4
Beginner - Intermediate Level
Using informal assessments and information from parents, I will work with student to strengthen their reading and have some fun. We will work with sight words, fundamental phonics, fluency, and comprehension. All of this personalized for your student. I love seeing students go from dreading reading to loving it. Depending on what the student needs, I will provide individualized lessons in letter recognition, phonics, sight words, reading comprehension, and/or fluency. Most lessons will end with a decodable book building on what the lesson focus was for that class.

I also love to add music, games, humor to our tutoring time to raise the level of engagement the student has to growing as a reader.

First Class: In this class we will get to know each other. During this class I will also give an informal assessment to gage where we might begin. I will also send a questionnaire to parents to gain important information about their student (example: history of students reading; what other educators have said and/or suggested; interest of their student ex. soccer, baking, barbie, etc.

As a teacher, I know it is so important to help students feel supported in their reading journey. Tutoring needs to be given with just the right tone. The moment the student begins to feel frustrated, it is important to pulled back and find the fun again. Another vital aspect is for students to have lots of successes in order to gain the confidence they need to grow as readers.

Learning Goals

Students will improve in areas that were determined to need growth in informal assessments. These could be: oral language, print awareness, alphabet knowledge, phonological and phonemic awareness, phonics and decoding, and sight words.
