We strongly recommend that students take Part 1 of this course if they do not have a basic knowledge of Mandarin Chinese.

This course is Part 2 of the "Let's Learn Mandarin!" course series. In these 5 weeks, students will learn to converse using simple Mandarin phrases, and they will master foundational vocabulary, including: daily conversation, colors, weather, clothing, good, and talking about yourself. Further, students will learn to write new Mandarin characters in every lesson and practice forming sentences and questions with them. (While not required, we do recommend that learners take Part 1 of this course in advance.)

Each class will begin with greetings, an introduction of the topic, and direct instruction by way of Powerpoints or videos. Afterward, students will spend time working collaboratively with the teacher and their peers to complete content and language-focused activities.

Below is the course outline:

Lesson 1: My favorite colors
- Students will learn their colors in Mandarin and tell us about their and family members' favorite colors.

Lesson 2: Weather
- Students will learn how to identify and talk about different weather conditions and describe their weather preferences..

Lesson 3: Clothing
- Students will learn clothes vocabulary in Mandarin and how to dress properly for a variety of weather conditions.

Lesson 4: Food
- Students will learn food vocabulary and how to talk about their favorite and least favorite foods.

Lesson 5: All about myself
- We will wrap up and review all of the topics we have learned, and students will engage in basic Mandarin conversation with the instructor and their classmates. Each student will have a presentation time to talk about a final project, which includes all topics covered in the course.
