Let's Get Writing - How to Use Description in Writing - The 3a's!

This class is aimed at students aged 9-11years. Students younger than this will find the work too challenging unless they are working at an advanced level and older students may find the work too easy. 
We will start off reviewing the basics of writing, such as, sentence structure, punctuation, nouns and verbs. 
Adjectives, adverbs and alliteration will all be taught, with students having opportunities to think of their own sentences including these language features. It would be beneficial if students already have a brief understanding of adjectives, adverbs and alliteration. Students will also learn how to extend sentences by adding more detail through the use of the language features mentioned above.

We will review an image (of an island), students will be asked questions about the image and will be required to write their answers down. As a group the children will share their answers with each other and myself. Children will be encouraged to use the language features discussed in our lesson, in their writing. I will be modelling examples for students of 'good sentences'. I will remind children there is no right or wrong answer, instead I want them to use their imagination. Depending on student's ability I will encourage them to write a sentence using all 3 language features learnt in the lesson. 

I have lots of experience teaching writing to young children over the last few years I have marked national examinations for Writing. 

Prior experience: Children should be able to write independently using compound and complex sentences. Children should already be aware of nouns, verbs and have an understanding of adjectives.
