Class Experience

In this class, we will learn how to create realistic drawings of people. Each week, a single student will pick a famous face for the class to draw. We will then draw a different celebrity from a photo reference and I will guide you step by step. At the beginning of each class, we will start with a short lesson about artistic theory. The foundation of this class is rooted in traditional drawing, and in the first week as an intro we cover all of the facets of traditional art such as understanding value and physical construction. As the following weeks go by we will cover different topics such as…

How to draw hair-
How to draw eyes-
How to draw lips-
How to do realistic shading

During the art lesson, I will guide students how creating a simplified value study from the photo reference. Contrary to popular belief, the key to draw photorealistic is not the details. The key is the shape design and the grouping of the values. After we establish an accurate depiction of the simplified value study, will we go into details. Students will also get direct feedback from me which I call sketch checks. My students will draw along with me as I use the program Sketchbook Autodesk on my iPad while using the Zoom screen share function. This is a great class for all skill levels of students who would like improve their artistic abilities. This class is for curious students with an inclination for realistic drawing. The type of educational training in this class will be similar to the type of class you will get at a prestigious art school, but it will be taught in a fun and relaxed environment.

Learning Goals

The learning goal will be for the student to see a photo and accurately sketch it out. The advanced learning goal is for the student to combine multiple reference photos together, and draw their own unique creations with their own artistic expression.
