Let's Chat! Story-Time for English Language Learners

This course is set up like a story time or morning meeting time in a kindergarten classroom. Skills covered include, greeting the teacher and peers, listening, speaking, connecting to a story, sharing thoughts to discuss the story. Learners will practice greeting me and the other learners at the start of each class. Then, they will listen to a story. Topics of stories will include colors, school, animals and other age appropriate and engaging topics. We will revisit the story and use the illustrations to review vocabulary and concepts through conversation about the story. Vocabulary covered will include naming colors, food, and objects found in the book. My job is to choose engaging stories to share and then coach your learner through discussing the story by using an "I do. We do. You do." framework. I model, we practice, you repeat. The course is limited to 3-4 students to allow learners ample opportunity to share ideas with each other through conversations. The course will close with practicing a good-bye phrase with peers.  A new story will be read each week.
