I have a master's degree in literacy and have been a public school teacher for 25 years. I love teaching foundational skills. There is nothing more exciting than when a child realizes that they can make sense of groups of letters, give them meaning, and share their joy with others. Learning to read is a huge step in any child's development and I would love to be part of that process for your learner.
Learners will be expected to watch the video lesson (approximately 15-20 minutes long) every Monday through Thursday for each week. Friday will be a review and show and tell day. Monday through Thursday, learners will be expected to complete the following assignments daily:
~Watch video lesson
~Tracing page
~Draw a picure related to the daily word family and "write" a caption for the illustration
~Read the book associated with the daily word family
~Practice sight word flash cards
~Post one of the homework assignments on the class page (photo or scan of tracing page or drawing or a video of the learner reading the book or flash cards aloud)
*There will also be an optional daily "Challenge" where learners can record themselves achieving the challenge, for example, a savenger hunt to find something in your house that begins with the letter A or tracing the letter of the day in a sensory medium such as shaving cream or sand. This will also fulfill the homework requirement.

Learners are encouraged to interact with each other by commenting on the videos and postings of their classmates. They will also have the opportunity to interact with each other by recording themselves joining a weekly activity such as I Have, Who Has, Would You Rather, Show and Tell, Sing-A-Long, and Storytelling.

Saturday-Every Saturday, Ms. Chris will record a video praising all the learners' hard work throughout the week. Each student who has completed their homework will add one piece to their snowman each week until they have a fully built snowman with accessories!
