Has your child ever wanted to draw characters from manga or anime but wasn't sure how to go about it? Students will learn to draw a different character from the popular manga and anime shows in each lesson! We'll learn to draw anime art together while learning the basics of anime features and head portions as guidelines by drawing various anime/manga characters. We will focus on different anime styles through characters from manga series like My Hero Academia, SpyXFamily, Attach on Titans, Naruto & Demon Slayer. This class is a beginner's / intermediate, so you don't have to watch the show or movie and read the manga to appreciate the art. I try not to give spoilers (but they may happen) so that your child has the opportunity to explore the show or manga after each class. The goal is to help students create their unique voice and style by breaking down specific anime traits into teachable segments each week through kindness, honesty, and positive reinforcement. Students can follow along or choose to try independently with some guidance. I try to keep the character we are drawing in each class as a reference pin as I draw. Students DO NOT have to follow me, but it is advisable initially. I welcome new styles and takes on characters. I teach encouragingly, praising my students when they are doing well while pointing out where they can improve. The best way to learn is to do, so I will make my lesson interactive and engaging. This course does not require any prior experience or knowledge. Anime, art, and drawing should be interesting to students with a positive attitude! The schedule: The schedule will be adjusted according to the specific class, but I have planned this. Sometimes, I will change the character if enough students request a particular character. I am always up for suggestions! Please email me if you want to know what will be drawn that week. Fall Schedule: To Come, Taking Request via Email THE WEEK OF: October 7th: Naruto Shippuden: Kashika. October 14th: Demon Slayer: Zenitsu Agatsuma October 21st: The Promised Neverland: Emma October 28th: My Hero Academia: Dabi November 4th: K-On Yui Hirasawa November 11th: My Hero Academia: Katsuki Bakugou November 18th: SpyXFamily: Becky Blackbell November 25th: Re:Zero: Rem December 2nd: Spy x Family:Anya Forger December 9th: Tokyo Revenger: Ken "Draken" Ryūgūji Students will have the opportunity to: - learn some basic to intermediate techniques for drawing anime - learn the basic understanding of the anime and manga art - learn art element fundamentals and drawing topics such as form, line, shape, space, texture, and value. - learn art design fundamentals and drawing topics - learn to be accepting of challenges in different techniques with a compassionate inner artistic voice - learn from one another collaboratively, ask questions, show work - learn to accept getting messy and making mistakes as a way to experiment with finding their voice Supplies needed each week: -Sketchbook Journal or paper -A pencil (mechanical & Granite #2) -A stump (Fingers can work) -Rulers The Flow: -Introduction Activity -Drawing Activity -Show Off Your Work What to Expect: -In each class, we will discuss and draw a different anime character. The course will begin with an introduction and discussion of the series or movie, followed by a "Draw With Me" format with step-by-step instructions. -Each student can follow along and choose to add their unique details to their characters. I ask for them to follow along on items that might be challenging, but the student can choose their path. -In this ongoing class, students can connect with their peers as we explore our excitement over anime art and how we can use each week to better our drawing styles. -Chat is always open and must follow the Outschool safety policy to remain on. Asking for help: Each student will have opportunities and ask for help throughout the class. I will ask how everyone is doing every 5 to 10 minutes so they can give me a thumbs up and down and show their work. Students can also ask for help, whether out loud or through chat. I try my best, but for the sake of time and the other students, I may help after class or give guidance via email through Outschool. About the class: -This class is best suited for those starting with little experience drawing anime. -The class is a "draw with me format" and will be taught at a slower / medium pace. I would not recommend this class for advanced students. -Some classes will be in beginner's format while being introduced and challenged with intermediate drawing techniques -This class is for those open to the challenge of pushing themselves a little further. -I will sketch in pencil, but those who may finish a little early or want to try markers, color pencil, or inking can towards the end of class. -I do not believe students should copy me exactly. If they follow along, they can create their unique fan art at their level. Creativity comes from guided freedom of space. -Although each week's drawing is related to a specific anime, we can speak or chat about other anime shows or manga as a way to express our interest in the genre. I don't expect students to know every show, so it is a great way to expose them to different series or movies. -Chat is open for conversations about anime and life. However, it will be turned off if Outschool safety policies are not followed. The teacher reserves the right to stop or change the subject as seen fit or the flow of the class. -Students can join my Outside Anime Club for free during attendance in the course. It is a great way to meet others who appreciate the genre. The club is: https://outschool.com/classes/anime-fans-club-lets-share-draw-and-discuss-all-things-anime-and-manga-BuEaWwCD#us6F4xRzBp Some Things to Mention: This type of drawing takes practice and exposure. It's an ongoing class to help establish a method of drawing with accountability and recognition. You are not obligated to stay in the class, but please let me know your intention. Students can rejoin at any time without disruption. Each week, there will be a different drawing direction so that your child reuses what they have learned on their own throughout the week. There is no grade or judgment in the class. I ask that each student respect each other's time and input. The main objective is the draw with compassion. Some experience with drawing may help the performance in the classroom. I ask that each student respect each other's time and input. I do ask that students are not late. Unfortunately, I may not admit students more than 15 minutes late because it is a time-sensitive activity. For all classes' safety, I asked that all students who are not verified show their faces at the beginning of the course. Those who refuse will be placed in the waiting room or removed from the class. Thank you so much for considering this course. Have a wonderful day! Please let me know if you have any questions. Background
The pedagogical approach I have created for my students has been based on my 20 years of teaching and tutoring experience and my degree in Psychology. My passion for cultivating a growth mindset that encourages effort and perseverance stems from my membership in the National Tutoring Association and Yoga Alliance and my Arts in Health and Self-Reliance training. I am completing a master's degree in education and working in one of the best charter schools in Rhode Island.
A Personalized Approach
My classroom is interactive and collaborative, adapting to my students' learning styles, schedules, and needs. At the end of the semester, all students feel good about their efforts. In my teaching approach, I believe in each child's uniqueness and seek to connect with and bring out that aspect of theirs in their work rather than simply focusing on the results.
As your child explores and curates art at their own pace, they develop creative and critical thinking skills. Art and writing are as therapeutic as any educational program. In my art classes, I provide students with a safe learning environment that meets their level of understanding and encourages ideas without fear of making mistakes.
