Beginner Level
Learn to Code with Star Wars is a class where learners will get an introductory experience with coding and computer science in a fun block-based visual programming environment. Students will build a Star Wars game using a block-based visual programming environment. Students will learn and apply key computer programming concepts, including event-driven programming, sequence, loops, parallelism, and conditionals. I like to apply the activity method as it is an ideal teaching style for STEM subjects. I provide guidance to learners, encouraging independent thought and self-learning through hands-on computer science games, video clips, fun activities, and discussions. I find this teaching style is ideal for learning STEM subjects.

Students should have an account at Code.org, which will be used within the Outschool classroom, as our coding platform to learn to code in a block-based visual programming environment. Please be sure to sign up for your free Code.org account prior to class at https://studio.code.org/users/sign_up

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have ten years of experience tutoring students online and in-person. I have a M.S. in Computer Science and Masters in Education. I tutor students in various STEM subjects, including Math, Science, Computer Programming and Coding. I teach students ranging in ages from nine to seventeen. I also tutor my two middle school children.
I love teaching and making learning fun and engaging. I like to apply an activity and/or project based teaching style because I think completing hands-on assignments and projects is the most fun way to learn.
