Learn Coding With Fun- PART 6(Conditionals)
Students will practice while loops, until loops, and if / else statements. All of these blocks use conditionals allowing them to write code that functions differently depending on the specific conditions the program encounters.
What's included
1 live meeting
50 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
This lesson introduces students to while loops and if / else statements. While loops are loops that continue to repeat commands as long as a condition is true. While loops are used when the programmer doesn't know the exact number of times the commands need to be repeated, but the programmer does know what condition needs to be true in order for the loop to continue looping. If / Else statements offer flexibility in programming by running entire sections of code only if something is true, otherwise it runs something else. Students will practice while loops, until loops, and if / else statements. All of these blocks use conditionals. By practicing all three, students will learn to write complex and flexible code. The if / else blocks will allow for a more flexible program. The bee will only collect nectar if there is a flower or make honey if there is a honeycomb. Students will also practice and recognize a connection between if / else blocks and while loops in this set of puzzles. what the bee should do when it gets to the cloud. New patterns will emerge and students will use creativity and logical thinking to determine the conditions where code should be run and repeated. Initial 2 minutes will be Introduction and making sure that everyone has access to the link that will be shared before the class time. Next 16 minutes will be working on challenge 1. I will keep explaining and helping them with their understanding as they progress. Next 16 minutes will be working on challenge 2. I will keep explaining and helping them with their understanding as they progress. Next 15 minutes will be working on challenge 3. I will keep explaining and helping them with their understanding as they progress. Next 1 minutes will be reinforcing the vocabulary and reflection on their learning.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to:
Translate spoken language conditional statements into a program.
Solve puzzles using a combination of looped sequences and conditionals.
Define circumstances when certain parts of a program should run and when they shouldn't.
Determine whether a conditional is met based on criteria.
Vocabulary:-
Conditionals - Statements that only run under certain conditions.
Condition - A statement that a program checks to see if it is true or false. If true, an action is taken. Otherwise, the action is ignored.
Loop - The action of doing something over and over again.
Repeat - Do something again
While Loop - A loop that continues to repeat while a condition is true.
Other Details
Supply List
Student will need a laptop or desktop and should be able to open a link in their browser. I will be sharing the link in the classroom before their scheduled class time. You will find all the links and instructions in the 'Teacher' tab in your class. The hyperlinks will be shared before the class time as done with other parts PART1 to PART5 earlier.
