The United States of America has the strongest protections for the freedom of speech and religion in the world. The 1st Amendment protects from interference by the government the freedom of speech, the freedom of the exercising of religion, the freedom to not have the government establish a religion, the freedom of the press, and the freedom to peaceably assemble, and the freedom to petition the government for a redress of grievances. I have been a high school teacher for over ten years as well as a practicing attorney.
An outline will be provided before every class to help students think through the situations.
We will be discussing mature topics dealing with the freedom of speech and the 2nd amendment. We will be encouraging thoughtful discussion, and students may have differing opinions from each other. We will strive to respect each other's opinion as we seek to understand these topics. Please only join this class if you can respect other's opinions, and expect to have your opinion respected as well.
We will refer to many Supreme Court cases as well as the 1st and 2nd amendments to the US Constitution.
