Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
This one-time, 50 minute class is perfect for mythology buffs and those with an interest in global religion and culture. We'll learn the fundamentals of Hinduism, including:

-Mythology: iconic gods, goddesses, and folktales. Including Ganesha, the elephant-headed God of Beginnings, and Shiva, the Destroyer God.

-Culture: festivals like Diwali, the winter festival of light, practices like yoga, and breathtaking temples.

-Religion*: beliefs and practices, like reincarnation and karma. How does religion overlap with and differ from mythology?

Students are encouraged to engage and ask questions, but are welcome to passively absorb if they prefer.

Optional Homework: Write a ~1 paragraph reflection for knowledge retention.

Finally, I recommend checking out my Teacher Profile, especially my Teaching Philosophy section, to make sure this is a fit for your student.

I also offer this class as a multi-week course on World Mythology: https://outschool.com/classes/world-mythology-in-popular-culture-greek-norse-japanese-egyptian-hinduism-bKUIqK1o

and as a Self-Paced Class: https://outschool.com/classes/mythology-in-popular-culture-greek-norse-japanese-and-egyptian-btSI90jn#usu529M6QA

if your student prefers one of those methods of instruction.

See you in class!

* This class does not promote any specific religions or religious point of views. Religious aspects are learned from an objective, historical and anthropological standpoint to understand Hinduism fully and contextualize its mythological and cultural aspects.

* This class does not use the term "mythology" to suggest that any views presented are false, but rather to refer to collections of stories related to religious traditions.
