Students will learn the speech outline, prepare speeches, and present speeches. We will also have some activity days as well as debates if there are at least 2 students in the class.

If there is enough time, students will be allowed to discuss the topics and ask questions more additional learning. This class is focused more on speech delivery rather than speech writing, since it's the speaking part that students struggle with more. We will work on mainly 3 different types of public speaking: Informative, Persuasive, and Debate, but the students will also get an opportunity to do other types of speeches as well, including How To, Pitch, and Impromptu speeches.

Improvement in giving speeches and presentations can help students improve their confidence, speaking, writing, English, vocabulary, and listening. It is a skill that we all need to develop. Studies show that people's #1 fear is public speaking, so students will be allowed to develop their speech skills in a fun and safe environment with teacher support. Students will receive constructive criticism and encouragement so they can understand what they are doing well and what they need to focus on for improvement.

Please be advised that this is not an ESL class and your child is expected to know how to speak, listen to, read and write English fluently.

Bachelor's Degree from Emporia State University
I have an Associate's Degree of Fine Arts and a Bachelor's Degree in Education with a focus in Speech and Theatre. I took Master's courses for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and I have a 120-hour TESOL Certificate. I approach learning with hands-on, fun, and relaxed strategies. Students should understand why the content is important and how it can be applied to their daily life. I use different teaching methods and students enjoy learning in new and interesting ways. I have 6 years of online teaching experience My teaching philosophy is that students should be provided with a fun, interactive, and stress-free learning environment. I'm a relaxed teacher who enjoys engaging with students and I encourage students to apply the knowledge and skills they are learning with a hands-on and natural approach. Each student has a unique set of skills and interests that should be nurtured.
