Class Experience

In this course, we will get familiar with the language and culture of the Romans by studying life in ancient Pompeii and Herculaneum. Starting from scratch, we will learn basic vocabulary and sentence structure, look at English words that come from Latin and discover Roman civilisation and mythology. The materials used are multisensory, and the approach to the language is gentle and playful. ESL learners are very welcome, and we will have a good time comparing pronunciations in different languages. The course will use plenty of audiovisual resources, and it will feel like a trip back in time!

Every session will consist of some language and some mythology. Roman life will also be studied. Learners will have a chance to participate either by showcasing their work and taking turns to speak on camera or by interacting through the chat if they prefer to do so. Students of all abilities are encouraged to join, and there will be differentiated tasks so that students can work at a level suitable to their learning needs.
