This is a fun art history and mixed media class where we will discover the artist Wassily Kandinsky, look at some of his famous paintings, and then create our own circles project.
Class experience
This is a fun art history and mixed media class. We will discover the famous artist Wassily Kandinsky, look at some of his well-known paintings, and then create our own circles based project. Fun fact: Kandinsky was gifted with "synesthesia", a condition that caused him to HEAR color and SEE sound! We'll be listening to kid-friendly music while we create art and discussing how certain colors make us feel. We will also find out how the color wheel can help us do a little color mixing...
Students don't need any prior art knowledge to participate. They will learn about the artist Kandinsky, how to draw "concentric" circles, and the mixed media technique known as "watercolor/pastel resist" painting. They will also be learning some basic color theory.
-Watercolor or mixed media paper (preferably 9x12 inches) -A pencil -A ruler -Oil Pastels (crayons can be used as well) -Watercolor paints (trays, or liquid watercolor will work just fine!) -A paintbrush (medium sized, any kind.) -A cup of water
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
