Class Experience

In this course, students will learn how the different computer parts all work together. Students will learn about the various components that make up a computer - from the CPU to the different peripherals and the different kinds of connections they make to the computer.

This class is designed for beginners, so no computer background is required. We will discuss all of the internal workings of the computer. There will be 4 classes covering the following subjects:

Class 1
What's in the box? Hardware basics and how these overgrown calculators work. Binary and magic numbers in computers, CPU, Memory, Hard Drives, graphics cards and mother boards.

Class 2
That's not a foot pedal, that's a mouse! Input and storage peripherals such as Mice, writing tablets, and touch sensitive objects. Also, what are all those plugs on the back of a computer?

Class 3
I made something cool, now what? Output peripherals, including how laser printers work, 3d printers, screens and more.

Class 4
Networks! A little bit of history and how exactly do they function.

These classes are presented in a lecture style format, with a slide show. I will show demonstration hardware, as well as my personal computer, which is built in a clear acrylic case for demonstration purposes. There will be periodic question and answer sessions during the class. No homework will be assigned and at no time will the student be asked to pull apart the household computer.
