Does speaking in public scare you? Do you just want a little practice? Did you know there's a method to the madness? In this class you'll learn the types of communication & public speaking, how to formulate a speech, and try your hand at speaking. We'll cover how to give an introductory speech, an impromptu speech, an informative speech, and a persuasive speech. I'll assign some homework along the way (preparing and practicing your speeches, etc.) I love a classroom filled with on-topic discussion. We will hear some speeches along the way and learn what to do and what to avoid during our speeches. This is a perfect class for anyone wanting to gain confidence with speaking. I will be utilizing slides as well as mini projects throughout the class for us to brainstorm and learn what makes a good speech, what to avoid, etc. While there will be homework, I enjoy providing lots of feedback on what students have done well and what they could improve. I enjoy helping students reach their potential and gaining confidence while speaking. Week 1- Introduction to Public Speaking and Expectations Week 2- What is an Introductory Speech? Week 3- Giving Introductory Speeches and Choosing a Great Topic Week 4- What to Include in a Speech Outline and What is an Informative Speech? Week 5- Building your Informative Speech Outline Week 6- Informative Speeches and What is an Impromptu Speech? Week 7- Impromptu Speeches and What is a Persuasive Speech? Week 8- Nonverbal Communication and How it Can Change our Speeches Week 9- Building Your Persuasive Speech Outline Week 10- Persuasive Speeches and Review
